He pursued a comprehensive educational journey from GS Baingeh through GHS Fundong to the University of Buea. Upon completion, he took up a teaching position at St Bedes college, and later moved to the University of North Dakota, USA, where he earned his PhD in Organic Photochemistry and a certificate in Civil Facilitative Mediation (conflict resolution).
Throughout his career, Dr. Yong has assumed leadership roles in several cultural groups and academic settings; including but not limited to:
1. President, Boyo Students Association (BOSTAS), Buea, Cameroon.
2. Chemistry Student Parliamentarian, University of Buea, Cameroon
3. International Student Recruiting Ambassador, University of North Dakota (UND, USA).
4. President, Chemistry Graduate Student Association, UND.
5. Board Member & Cofounder, Bobong Elite Scholarship Program for the Needy.
6. Lead team member for Avî-á-Foyn (Fon’s Car) Acquisition
7. Lead team member, Kom Palace Renovation Project (Aba’la’ntoh).
8. Owner of a masquerade “juju dance” (Bo Mukum – BaèSamô’h)
9. President, Kom Chicago, a chapter of Afo-a-kom USA
Dr. PK Yong’s tenure as a leader in these organizations and groups showcased his exceptional organizational skills, visionary thinking, and ability to motivate and inspire others towards a common goal. Dr. Yong’s commitment to fostering collaboration and inclusivity in his leadership has been instrumental in creating a nurturing environment for Afo-a-kom USA and for cultural practitioners to thrive. His transformative vision and ability to drive strategic initiatives has led to remarkable growth and increased engagement with the organization and the Kom community at large. With his leadership, Afo-a-kom USA has witnessed a significant expansion of programs and events, resulting in heightened cultural awareness and outreach. His leadership style seeks to ensure that members have equal opportunities to showcase their talents and contribute to the cultural and socio-economic landscape.
Under President Yong’s guidance and his team’s transformative agenda, the organization continues to grow, making significant contributions to the enrichment and preservation of Kom culture for generations to come.
